22 Filmore

From the gritty streets of the Dogpatch, through the Mission and Haight Fillmore to the Marina District, a uniformed bus attendant offered a gesture of civility to riders of the 22.

In cooperation with citySPACE San Francisco and I was a uniformed attendant for a month on and alongside the 22 Fillmore bus.

Hospitality for an often overlooked form of transit. The attendant greets passengers on boars, making sure that the areas around the stops are clean. Infusing bus travel with uniformed grandeur, the Bus Stop Attendant offers hospitality, civility and community, connecting passengers to the transient social space of the stop. The service raised questions about expectations of service in public space– as well as our expectations of what tending these places involves, who those working are.
